Young Thug is facing more legal troubles after he was accused of selling portions of his catalog for millions without consent.
Following his two year stint in jail, the Atlanta rapper will have to face an ongoing legal battle with Anschutz Entertainment Group, Inc. (AEG). In court documents AllHipHop published on Sunday, November 17, the live music and entertainment company alleged Thugger, born Jeffrey Williams, violated the terms of their previous agreement when he sold copyrights of over 400 compositions for $16 million in 2021. AEG argued that the funds he gained from the sale should've been diverted to the company to help pay off a loan worth millions of dollars.
AEG's issues with Young Thug began back in 2017 when they reportedly gave the rapper and his label Young Stoner Life a loan for $5.25 million. In exchange for the loan, AEG received exclusive rights to promote all of his concerts. Thugger and the label were also responsible for paying back the loan with interest in addition to shared revenue from his shows. The company alleged Thug and YSL defaulted on the loan in 2019, and claimed they mislead them about their ability to repay the loan.
In 2021, Young Thug sold off pieces of his catalog to Kobalt Music for over $16,000. AEG claims the sale was completed without their knowledge, and also accused Thug of lying when he allegedly told Kobalt the compositions weren't caught up in any legal issues. The company is seeking the full $5.25 million plus earnings that stem from the 400 compositions that were sold.
AEG decided to hold off on pursuing the lawsuit in 2022 a few months after Young Thug was indicted in the YSL RICO case. However, the lawsuit is back in motion and they plan to pursue every possible option to ensure they get their money back. As of this report, Young Thug's attorneys have not responded to the new allegations from AEG.
